Round one: Blue Mountain Earthquakes vs The Hongo Valley Wildflowers

It’s a nice and bright day, perfect Blood Bowl weather! On field today is the first match between the fearsome Ogres from the Blue Mountain Earthquakes and the beautiful Orcs of the Hongo Valley Wildflowers. A coin toss favours the Earthquakes who decides to receive first. Just as the kick off is made, a wild cheer from the large number of Wildflower fans erupts boosting their morale greatly!

And the game is on! The flying ball lands directly on the head of Twitchy #741 who miraculously manages to catch it. A battle starts on the line of scrimmage as the ogres try to overpower the orcs and goblins. Unfortunately a slip on some muddy patch caused the ogre to fall over whist it was trying to push an orc out of the way.

The Wildflowers capitalized on the shift of momentum as they surged across the halfway line and blitzer Azaleas grabs the ball.

However she soon finds herself surrounded by ogres and twitchies, and fails in her attempt to pass it over to fellow blitzer Clover.

With the ball in the open, twitchies from left right and centre converge on the ball.

In an attempt to snatch the ball, line orc Buttercup delivers a fast kick to the knee of Twitchy #744 smashing it and the groaning little player had to be stretchered off.

The orcs manages to recover the ball and spends the rest of the half defending it to prevent an ogre touch down. A bitter brawl ensues on field as ogre Grugark Eyegouger knocks out Wildflower goblin Ficus, and the orc blitzer Clover in turn knocks out Twitchy #746. In the midst of the battle, Twitchy #742 sneaks in and kicks a dazed orc blocker Opuntia, knocking out the already downed player. Finally the line orc Camellia bumps into Twitchy #741, causing a familiar smashed knee.

As the opportunity to score diminishes, Twitchy #745 throws a pass to #743, showing the clumsy orcs how it is done. A horn blasts through the air signaling the end of the half, with no scores.

Second half starts with the ogres kicking the ball deep into their opponent’s half, causing Parsley, the orc thrower to scramble back to pick up the ball. Again, a loud clash signals the start of the battle at the line of scrimmage as the orcs pile on huge numbers to knock down their larger opponents. The lineorc Buttercup sneaks in to stomp on one of the fallen ogres only to be spotted by Priscilla, the referee of the match. However the close proximity of the large orc blocker Beebalm convinced her not to blow her whistle.

The ogres recovered to push back, with ogre Bezagg Brainbasher injuring the goblin Aster, who spent the rest of the game unconscious.

The orc blitzers penetrates the Earthquake’s line speeding deep into their half chancing for a passed ball. Twitchies move in to surround the blitzers in an attempt to harass them but the orc’s offensive team captain Ratama delivers a vicious stomp on the foot of Twitchy #742, smashing his fragile ankle.

As the orc thrower Parsley come under increasing pressure from the ogres, her guarding blockers managed to free her long enough for a medium pass to the waiting blitzers which she blotches. Once again the ball is in the open and Twitchy #746 scoops it up and dashes back down towards the Wildflower’s endzone.

However, moments before #746 manages to touchdown, the lineorc Buttercup displays an amazing feat of agility dodging away from ogres and twitchies sprinting faster than she ever has and jumped onto #746 injuring herself and knocking the ball into the crowd who were more than happy to lob it back onto the field. As the remaining minutes of the half passes, both team gave up hope of scoring and the entire field became a huge melee as the ogres use their superior strength against the numerous orcs. While several players were knocked down or out, no lasting injuries resulted.

The final horn sounds, signaling an end to the match. A nil all draw.

The injured line orc Buttercup and goblin Aster were checked over by the team’s quack and were declared to be fit for game.

Both Twitchy #741 and #744 suffered a niggling knee injury while #742’s smashed ankle will slow him down even when it heals completely.

Most valuable player for the Wildflowers was awarded to the line orc Camellia for her excellent plays in holding up the huge ogres and blitzing the small twitchies.

Most valuable player for the Earthquakes was awarded to Twitchy #742 for bravely standing up to the Wildflower captain who limped up onto the stage in crutches to collect his MVP award. The celebrating Ogres carried him on their shoulders and headed for the player tunnel. Noone has seen him since, although the stadium janitor did find a particularly stubborn stain in the locker room used by the Ogres.

Final score for the Hongo Valley Wildflowers is no touch down and 3 casualties, earning them 3 league points.

Final score for the Blue Mountain Earthquakes is no touch down and 2 casualties, earning them 2 league points.
